Our History
The mission of the Chicago Women's AIDS Project (CWAP) is to address the disparities in health care, prevention and support services for women, youth and communities of color through innovative programs, advocacy and collaboration. CWAP is the only organization in Chicago solely dedicated to providing gender-specific HIV prevention and care services to women at risk.
CWAP has been providing support services for HIV positive women and their families since 1988, when we started the first support group for women in Chicago. Currently, we provide a wide range of support services, including professional therapy, peer-led support groups, after-school activities and childcare subsidies, treatment education, financial assistance, leadership and facilitator training as well as preventative interventions in clinics across the city of Chicago.
Direct care services are available at two full-service sites; our original site in the Edgewater area and our south side location in the South Shore community.
